Description
This nail was salvaged from one of the thousands of sunken ships in the English Channel. During this period, the English Channel was a notoriously risky body of water; narrow, congested, and subject to not only foul weather, but intense naval battles as well. The Royal Navy determined that nails composed of pure copper were too soft, prompting them to adopt copper-zinc and brass alloys in the 1780s to prevent galvanic corrosion.
