Excavated from Utah’s Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry, which contains one of the densest concentrations of Jurassicera dinosaur bones in the world. The Allosaurus was named from the Greek words allos (“different” or “other”) and sauros (“lizard”), as its vertabrae structure was different from any other dinosaur known at the time of its discovery in 1877. On average, the carnivorous allosaurus would grow up to 30 feet long, 10 feet tall, and weighed roughly two tons.
