Hematite is an iron oxide found across shallow layers of the earth’s crust. It is the most important iron ore, along with magnetite, and it is melted down into all the steel and iron that we use today. Similar to iron, hematite can be used to produce everything from pigments for the paint to radiation shielding. Hematite forms in many colors and shapes. It can be black, grey, brown, metallic, dull, crystalline, and lumpy, amongst many other attributes. Hematite is not magnetic; however, sometimes, it contains enough magnetite to attract common magnets. Hematite is regarded as a very well-grounded stone, making it compatible with the Root chakra. It helps transform negative energies into strong, positive vibrations. Hematite is said to be a detoxifying stone. Those worried about liver and blood issues should consider having some around them. Hematite can be quite striking, and as such, makes good jewelry and conversation pieces, while regulating the energy around them.
